Elizabeth McIntosh talked about her book Sisterhood of Spies: The Women of the OSS (US Naval Institute Press, 1998). In the book she tells the story of women, including Marlene Dietrich and Julia Child, who served during World War II in operations for the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the predecessor to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Elizabeth McIntosh, then a war correspondent, joined the fledgling Office of Strategic Services in 1943, running morale operations against the Japanese, and went on to become a longtime employee of the CIA. She talked about how she came to serve in the OSS and other women who served. She responded to questions from members of the audience.

“Sisterhood of Spies” was part of the noontime 75th Anniversary Author Lecture Series. The lecture was held on Wednesday, November 18, 2009, in the Jefferson Conference Room of the National Archives. close
