The Senate Committee on the Judiciary held a hearing on “Reporters' Priviliege Legislation: An Additional Investigation of Issues and Implications” inside Room 226 of the Senate Dirksen Office Building. Witnesses testify about the issues and implications of reporter’s shield legislation and freedom of the press. Ms. Miller spoke about how reporters should not be jailed even when they or their sources are flawed.

The hearing takes place amidst a potential scandal involving White House leaks to reporters, and a special investigation into the source of the leaks. The investigation led to the incarceration of Judy Miller, a reporter who had maintained the confidentiality of a source. close
