Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Patrick Leahy (D-VT) talked about National Security Agency (NSA) surveillance programs and the USA FREEDOM Act, which he co-wrote. The bill was intended to rein in the National Security Agency’s collection of Americans' telephone records as well as its searches of electronic mail and social networking sites. He was a co-author of the PATRIOT Act in 2001, and the plan for the new bill is to correct some of the practices that had sprung from that act. After the interview the reporters discussed his responses with the host. close
