The Senate Select Committee on Intelligence held a hearing on intelligence issues related to national security threats. National Intelligence Director Negroponte and other top intelligence chiefs testified about regions and conflicts at the center of President Bush’s foreign policy agenda and his recent plan to deploy 21,500 additional troops to Iraq. Among the issues they addressed were the capabilities of Iraqi security forces, levels of sectarian violence in Iraq, threats posed by al-Qaida in Iraq and the region, and nuclear development in Iran and North Korea. close
