Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (East Asia) Michael Schiffer held a press briefing on the 2011 Defense Department Report to Congress on the “Military and Security Developments Involving the People’s Republic of China.” According to the findings of the report, China appears to be on track to build a modern, regionally-focused military by 2020. The report stated that China has closed critical technological gaps, and is rapidly modernizing its military equipment. close
