A re-enactment was made of the inaugural train trip of President-Elect Abraham Lincoln from Springfield, Illinois, to Washington, D.C. Mr. Lincoln was portrayed by Fritz Klein in this 150th anniversary event sponsored by the National Parks Service. In Baltimore he was shown making an explanatory speech at Camden Station.
Warned of a possible assassination plot, President-Elect Lincoln secretly traveled through Baltimore in the very early morning hours of February 23, 1861. He traveled by horse-drawn car from Baltimore’s President Street Station under cover of darkness to the Camden Station from where he the travel to Washington by train.
