Ron Brownstein talked about his book, The Second Civil War: How Extreme Partisanship Has Paralyzed Washington and Polarized America (Penguin Press).

In the book he analyzed the history and forces that have made American politics divisive and partisan. He talked about political strategies that thrived in a highly partisan environment. Mr. Brownstein contended that America is at a dangerous impasse and offers ideas for achieving consensus on the challenges the nation faces today. He answered questions from the audience.

Ronald Brownstein is political director of Atlantic Media Company, publishers of the Atlantic, National Journal, and The Hotline. Mr. Brownstein was previously the chief political correspondent for the Los Angeles Times and was a two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist for his coverage of presidential elections. close
