Albert Teich talked about federal government-funded research and development programs, and he responded to telephone calls and electronic communications. The federal government spends about $140 billion a year to fund research and development projects. In fiscal year 2012, the Departments of Defense, Health and Human Services and Energy are slated to receive the most money. Mr. Teich also discussed the amount of money assigned, the projects funded and President Obama’s call for more money for science research and developement.

This program is part of C-SPAN’s “Your Money” series, which looks at how taxpayer dollars are spent. Most Monday mornings, some of the last hour of “Washington Journal” is devoted to a federal program, focusing on its mission, participants, and cost. close
