Labor Secretary Robert Reich spoke to an audience of teachers on the relationship between education policy and jobs in the U.S. economy. In a speech sprinkled with humorous remarks, the secretary emphasized the importance of the American educational system in instilling youth with the knowledge and training needed to keep the economy afloat through increasing productivity. Following his prepared remarks, he responded to audience members questions that addressed such issues as students not going to college and how to encourage them, allocating resources to struggling school districts, and how NAFTA would effect US education.
