Education professionals talked about proposals to raise high school graduation rates. Philip Oreopoulos began the discussion by outlining his research paper on the relationship between increasing compulsory education and average lifetime wealth. Terry Grier talked about efforts in Houston, Texas, to improve graduation rates, one of which was going door-to-door to ask students why they dropped out. Other topics included adding new educational formats, and the associated costs and effectiveness of trying to modify student behavior. Panelists also responded to questions from audience members. close
