Senators from New York and New Jersey testified on transportation systems damaged by Hurricane Sandy. Both Senators Schumer and Gillibrand talked about salt water damage to New York’s 108-year old subway system rail lines. Senator Menendez talked about other natural disasters that occurred other places around the country and called on the rest of the country to support New York and New Jersey in its rebuilding efforts. He also had photos showing the extensive damage to parts of New Jersey. Then transportation officials testified about the damage the storm did in the region, the costs of repairs, and the need to improve the the systems to be better prepared for future emergencies. close
