Panelists talked about the future of U.S. tax policy. Among the specific topics addressed were the tax gap, the budget deficit, the distribution of the tax burden, the alternative minimum tax, and public respect for the tax system. Ms. Olson spoke on behalf of the Bush administration, while Mr. Sperling represented Democratic presidential candidate Senator John Kerry. Mr. Bergin moderated the discussion.
