John Micklethwait, the newly appointed editor of The Economist, talked with Orville Schell about the direction he is taking the magazine, and about America’s role in the world. The interview took place on the stage before an audience. Topics included liberals vs. conservatives, religiosity, American suburbs, the media, writing editorials, and the war in Iraq. After their discussion, Mr. Micklethwait responded to audience members' questions.
