The postmaster general reviewed the recent performance of the U.S. Postal Service, which showed a $1.6 billion profit last year. He said, however, that mail volume has not been growing as fast as predicted and that costs are rising. He also said that the postal board of governors may have a recommendation soon for an increase in postal rates next year. He also talked about an ongoing Justice Department investigation, saying that he had done nothing wrong in connection with a proposal to put Coca-Cola machines in post offices.
