Ahmed Rashid talked about the effectiveness of Pakistan’s military forces (with assistance from the U.S. military) to stop Taliban forces in the border areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan. He responded to telephone calls and electronic mail.

Mr. Rashid wrote in Friday’s Washington Post that relations between both armies are at their worse since September 11, 2001. He is the author of the book Descent Into Chaos: The U.S. and the Failure of Nation Building in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Central Asia. close
