This 1943 U.S Navy documentary depicts life in Hawaii before, during, and after the 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. The Navy refused to release this 82 minute film during World War II due to concerns about ideas expressed regarding security lapses in Hawaii and concerns about fictionalized recreations. A 34 minute version was released and won an Academy Award in 1943. The film was produced by Hollywood director John Ford, and directed by Greg Toland. The film depicts agricultural workers, businesses, schools, churches, leisure activities, and Japanese spies. close
