Participants briefed reporters on a new report on literacy in the United States. Ms. Griffith outlined the data in the report which indicated that U.S. students read on comparable levels with most developed nations and why some students read at a higher level than others. In his remarks, Secretary Riley stressed that the report demonstrated the importance of parents' background and behavior in helping students read at a higher level. close
