In a panel discussion titled, “The Economy in the 1990s: What Went Wrong in the Bush/Clinton Era,” participants discussed the recent performance of the U.S. economy. They examined the Bush and Clinton administration policies which they argued had caused a slowdown in the postwar economic growth rate, especially the 1990 and 1993 budget reconciliation packages with their significant tax increases. They also evaluated economic performance based on several criteria, including family income, tax levels, and growth in the GDP, and previewed economic performance under either a Dole or Clinton administration. After individual presentations, they took questions from the audience. close
