Undersecretary Padilla delivered an opening address on the economic future of the United States as East Asia develops an integrated economy. He responded to questions from members of the audience. Following his remarks, Michael Auslin moderated a panel discussion titled “Asian Economies in Transition: Will the United States Be Left Behind?” Panelists talked about economic development in Asia, economic integration among several Asian economies and the possible impact on U.S. trade and diplomatic relations in the region, and future U.S. trade interests in the region.
