President Bill Clinton and several Central American leaders briefed reporters on details of their meetings designed to strengthen ties between the U.S. and all of Central America. The president stated that the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) would also help the countries of Central America open trade markets to U.S. goods. President De Leon Carpio also made an opening statement before all the leaders took questions. A number of the questions focused on the possible impact of NAFTA on the region. close
