The National Transportation Safety Board held an all-day highway safety forum, “Awake, Alert, Alive: Overcoming the Dangers of Drowsy Driving” on combating the effects of driver fatigue. After opening remarks, the first panel discussed the scope of the problem. Topics included the biology of the brain, the necessity of “healthy” sleep, and how quickly a sleepy driver could get into trouble.
