Now that America has shown its dominance in the Middle East, Sen. Bentsen said that it is time the United States shows that it is also the number one economic power in the world. He said that based on the Soviet Union’s experiences, America should learn that military superiority cannot be built on a second-class economy. “The underlying strength of America is its economy, its opportunity for its people.” To continue America’s proud leadership, the country must adjust to the economic conditions of the 1990s. close
