He talked about the state of the current U.S. missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. He said President Obama’s decision on Afghanistan will be the most important decision of his presidency and that he would carry out that decision whatever it was. He also announced that new reconnaissance missions and technology were sent to Afghanistan the previous week. Army Secretary McHugh, who introduced Secretary Gates, talked about his visits to Iraq and how failure in the current war is not an option.
The program also included a tribute to non-commissioned officers through a series of historical reenactments highlighting different periods in the Army’s history.
