Committee members held a confirmation hearing for former Governor John Carlin to be archivist of the United States. As the leader of the National Archives he would be responsible for the protection and preservation of our nation’s historical documents, including the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. In addition the archivist is the trustee of presidential records and plays a role in the release of these records after a president leaves office. close
