Roy Gutman, author of How We Missed the Story: Osama bin Laden, the Taliban, and the Hijacking of Afghanistan, talked about why the U.S. media and government failed to realize the threat posed by the Taliban in Afghanistan and the groups like Al Qaeda that it harbored. The guest interviewer was Moises Naim, editor of Foreign Policy magazine. Gutman, foreign editor for McClatchy newspapers, was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1993 for his coverage of the conflict in Bosnia-Herzegovina. He is the co-editor of Crimes of War: What the Public Should Know, published by W.W. Norton and Company.
