Governor Mitt Romney announced to reporters that he would not seek re-election. He discussed his accomplishments that included benefits for veterans and national guardsmen, environmental programs, tuition-free Adams' scholarships, and lowered taxes. He also talked about the top ranking of Massachusetts fourth and eighth graders on the National Report Card. Following his remarks, he responded to questions and comments from the reporters.

He was elected governor of Massachusetts in November of 2002.
