Seven years after delivering a controversial speech about “Murphy Brown” and the role of television, former Vice President Quayle returned to the same podium in San Francisco to talk about what he viewed as forces working to create a “poverty of values” in the country. Republican presidential candidate Steve Forbes addressed the New York State Conservative Party. He said that Republicans needed a strong candidate like Ronald Reagan if they were to defeat the Democrats in 2000.
