Witnesses testified about government oversight and regulation of financial institutions and markets. Among the issues they addressed were reorganization of government agencies and the creation of new entities to evaluate risks in financial and securities markets. They testified about how such a reorganization should be enacted and what enforcement authority should be given to new agencies. They focused on powers which would allow the government to act to systemically unwind large non-bank financial institutions whose failure posed significant risks to the U.S. economy. close
