The panelists talked about the state of America’s public schools. They focused on changes that had been made in the nation’s educational system since the publishing of the U.S. Department of Education’s National Commission on Excellence in Education’s scathing 1983 report, entitled A Nation at Risk. They analyzed the problems identified in the report, and discussed the effectiveness of various solutions. Following prepared remarks, panelists responded to questions from the audience. Mr. Gordon is the editor of A Nation Reformed: American Education 20 Years After a Nation at Risk, published by Harvard Education Publishing Group. Mr. Peterson is the editor of Our Schools and Our Future: Are We Still at Risk?, published by Hoover Institution Press. close
