White House Chief of Staff John Sununu spoke at the Newsmaker Luncheon sponsored by Knight-Ridder Newspapers for newspaper editors and other media personnel in Washington, DC. He responded to questions from the audience, and discussed recent accusations that he used federal planes to conduct personal business at taxpayers' expense. Denying allegations of misconduct, he said every use of U.S. planes was under the directive of the president, and he had no choice but to use the government planes. Mr. Sununu discussed White House policy concerning use of the planes, media coverage of the scandal, and went on to examine the Bush administration’s domestic and foreign policies. close
