Rick Atkinson talked about his book The Day of Battle: The War in Sicily and Italy, 1943 to 1944, published by Henry Holt and Company. The book is Volume Two of the Liberation Trilogy about World War II. In his book, Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Rick Atkinson detailed the constant warfare from the invasion of Sicily in July 1943 to the liberation of Rome in June 1944 that resulted in over 300,000 Allied casualties. The guest interviewer was Patrick O’Donnell.

Rick Atkinson is the author of several books, including An Army at Dawn: The War in North Africa, 1942-1943 that was the winner of the 2003 Pulitzer Prize in history. Mr. Atkinson was formerly a writer and senior editor at The Washington Post for over twenty years.

Patrick O’Donnell is a historian and the author of numerous books, including Beyond Valor: World War II’s Ranger and Airborne Veterans Reveal the Heart of Combat and We Were One: Shoulder to Shoulder with the Marines Who Took Fallujah.
