Adam Goodheart, author of 1861: The Civil War Awakening, talked about the importance of western battles such as the Battle of Wilson’s Creek in southwestern Missouri on August 10, 1861. There, Nathaniel Lyon became the first Union general to be killed in the American Civil War. Mr. Goodheart was interviewed at the exhibit, Civil War exhibit at the National Portrait Gallery.
