Panelists discussed the 2004 election and its impact on the state and local level. Mr. Panetta spoke about his experience in the Clinton Administration. He also spoke about the recent presidential campaign and the divisions created and revealed during the course of the race. He spoke about the potential for bipartisanship during the next four years. Governor Edgar spoke about his experiences as Governor of Illinois, as well as the relationship between state and federal politics. He spoke about the impact of September 11th on politics in the U.S. He also spoke about the issues that he feels swayed voters during the recent election. He asserted that foreign policy issues were the most significant issues that voters considered during the 2004 election. Following their remarks, the panelists responded to questions from the audience.
