The House Financial Services Committee held a hearing on draft legislation of the economic, mortgage and housing rescue plan announced the previous week. On the second day of the hearing, a governor and mayors testified about the effect of the mortgage crisis on their states and cities. They discussed local efforts that they are making to help homeowners facing foreclosure, how foreclosures destroy the neighborhoods in their cities, and the need for financial counseling. Then representatives from community groups who are trying to assist in the crisis testified. close
