The final evening of the 1992 Republican National Convention began with speeches by Sen. John McCain and former President Gerald Ford. Sen. McCain, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, praised the character of President George H. W. Bush in recalling the president’s accomplishments dating back to his bravery in World War II. Former President Gerald Ford, who walked on stage with his wife Betty Ford, also praised President Bush by noting the changes in the nation’s global political makeup in the past decade and lauded the values that unite Americans as embodied in President Bush. close
