Damali Ayo talked about her book How to Rent a Negro, published by Lawrence Hill Books. In this satirical look at race relations the author argues that white people should be charged fees for interacting with blacks, whether it be touching their skin or hair, having them attend a mainly white social event, or getting a black person’s opinion on a current race-related topic. The book is in the format of a guide to starting a rental business. It is partially based on her website and the rental applications that she has received. She talked about her experiences as a token black person and the need for improved racial relations. Ms. Ayo also answered questions from members of the audience. close
