The Federalist Society hosted a panel discussion on the role of the executive branch and the legislative branch’s role in holding the president accountable. Paul Gigot, The Wall Street Journal explained the problem with having the independent counsel since the president can use the counsel as a shield and a scapegoat. The congress also can escape their duty of investigation as well by putting it on the independent counsel. Attorney for former White House Counsel Vince Foster James Hamilton mentioned the possibility of the censure of the president. The panelists commented on whether or not impeachment would be the best option for the Congress. close
