Federal Reserve Chair Ben Bernanke was one of four panelists examining policy responses to economic crises. He compared the financial crisis of 2008 to the panic of 1907 and the lessons learned from both events. He also commented on current economic conditions including the impact of student loan debt and what he called a “slack in the labor market” such as young people living with their parents which he said was understated by the unemployment rate. After each panelist made individual remarks, a question period with the moderator and audience followed.

“Economic Forum: Policy Responses to Crises” was the final panel of the Fourteenth Jacques Polak Annual Research Conference held at the headquarters of the International Monetary Fund. close
