American Atheists Convention members debated whether the religious freedom amendment was really necessary to the U.S. Constitution. Ronald Barrier argued against the amendment on the grounds that it would abrogate the First Amendment. Steven McFarland argued for the amendment, saying that U.S. law did not adequately protect free exercise of religion. close
