A panel discussion was held on the political power of the religious right. Senator McCain became the presumptive 2008 Republican nominee without the support of most religious conservatives, many of whom backed Governor Mike Huckabee. Rifts have developed over whether to broaden the movement’s political agenda to include issues such as climate change and poverty. Other topics included whether religious voters will migrate to the Democratic Party and what the Democratic Party can do to get the religious vote. Will Marshall moderated.
