Panelists talked about the role of religion in international diplomacy and U.S. foreign policy. Jerry White from the State Department and White House Special Envoy Arsalan Suleman outlined the efforts of their respective departments to engage religious leaders. Following their remarks former Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Thomas Pickering provided commentary. In his remarks, he said the first point of error in dealing with conflicts such as those happening in Iraq, Syria, and the Gaza Strip was failure to fully understand the role of religion. close
