At the Earl Bourdon Senior Center picnic, President Clinton and Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) shook hands and agreed to work toward a bipartisan reform of the campaign finance system. They also talked about the pursuit of an economic strategy that focused on creating jobs and raising incomes, the quest for a social strategy that rewards work and family and reinforces responsible child-rearing, downsizing of government, reduction of bureaucratic red tape, deficit reduction, expansion of trade, increased investment in education, promotion of welfare reform, increased security for Americans, and the rising costs of Medicare and Medicaid. close
