Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia reflected on the Constitution during its 200th anniversary celebration. He discussed how the Constitution is used as a guideline in legal decision making, its durability as a legal document, the Bill of Rights, and how the Supreme Court is affected by society and society’s opinions. Following the discussion, Justice Scalia answered several questions from the audience. Some of these questions address such topics as television in the Court during oral argument, challenges facing the Court in the next five years, and what decisions the Court will make in the near future. In a particularly interesting response, Scalia argued that Congress must be careful not to pass a seemingly good amendment only to have it bring negative consequences. close
