A bipartisan forum of U.S. senators, former federal

government officials, and private sector economic policy specialists

addressed deficit reduction issues and whether cutting the debt would

improve the economy.

Senators Kerrey, Lieberman, Brown, Graham, Robb, and Gregg, who organized the discussion, introduced an amendment last month to

reduce the budget deficit by 94 billion dollars over five years. Since the amendment failed, the group has been looking at ways to

pursue budget cuts. close
