South African Ambassador to the U.S. Harry Schwarz responded to questions from high-school students on recent changes in his country, South Africa. Recently the white population of South Africa voted in a referendum to continue the policies of President F.W. DeKlerk in removing apartheid laws and eventually creating racial and social equality between the races in South Africa. Amb. Schwarz discussed the results of the referendum, and the relations between social groups during the democratization process in South Africa. Amb. Schwarz was later joined by Nomonde Ngubo with the National Union of Mineworkers, who also responded to questions on relations between the races in South Africa. close
