Marc Aronson talked about his book for young readers The Real Revolution: The Global Story of American Independence, published by Clarion Books. In the book, Marc Aronson traces the complex origins of the American Revolution in terms of the global economy and politics. He talked about the importance of a global historical perspective and the process of discovering historical connections. He explained that globalization is not new, just faster because of modern communications. He illustrated this by telling the story of why shiploads of tea were in Boston Harbor at the time of the Boston Tea Party. He also talked about how owning slaves affected the colonists and their views on freedom. Throughout his talk he took questions from the young readers in the audience. close
