Barbara Bush received a 1993 Maxwell House “Search for Real Heroes” award for her volunteer work. She was one of fifty people to receive the award this year. In her speech, she reviewed what she and former President George Bush have been doing since leaving the White House. She also related some anecdotes about her work to fight illiteracy.
