The “Freedom to Read Protection Act of 2003” was introduced by Congressman Bernie Sanders (I-VT) to eliminate Section 215 of the USA PATRIOT ACT. Section 215 gives federal authorities investigating terrorism the power to obtain customer information from bookstores and libraries. Joining Congressman Sanders in support of the bill are Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-OR), Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX), Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), Emily Sheketoff (American Library Associaiton), Christopher Finan (American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression), Trina Magi (University of Vermont), and Linda Ramsdell (Galaxy Bookshop). close
