Members of Congress and others reacted to the television ratings system proposed by industry executives and recently leaked to the press. They criticized the proposal for being too vague, and age, rather than content based, which would allow parents to make their own evaluation of programs based on specific information about language, violence and sexual content. The members of Congress also held out the possibility of a government ratings system if the television industry does not change its initial proposal. close
