Witnesses testified on the role of credit rating agencies in the financial crisis, and what changes might be made to their oversight. Credit rating agencies have come under criticism because of the high marks they gave to mortgage products containing high percentages of sub-prime loans.

Assistant Treasury Secretary Michael Barr in his remarks said that government should not be involved in regulating credit rating agencies. Credit rating agencies representatives and academics offered opinions on what should be done with credit rating agencies. close
